On opening day, The inFlux Dialogues brought together Chinese and American designers, brand executives, and artists from across disciplines. Discussions explored creative exchange between the two cities, China’s new generation of consumers, localization for international brands, and the relationship between fashion and urban public spaces—generating actionable industry insights. From creative showcases to industry dialogue, New York’s avant-garde creativity met Shanghai’s established commercial ecosystem in Jing’an. A two-way exchange between Chinese and American fashion was just beginning.
“Shanghai is very special… there’s a really unique balance between history and modernity.”
- Shao Yang
Shao Yang reflected on a city where new ideas and developments coexist with a strong sense of history and culture. For Shao, that cultural depth is a source of inspiration as SHAO continues to develop its presence in Shanghai. Connecting with the city means engaging with its people, its craft, and the creative perspectives that shape it.

“What I’m really excited to build here is community.”
- Shao Yang
For Shao, that connection begins with people: local artisans, business leaders, and creatives working across fashion, music, art, and architecture. Having built a creative community in New York, she hopes to develop that same spirit of connection in Shanghai. These relationships offer opportunities to exchange ideas, learn from different disciplines, and bring those conversations into the practice of design.

SHAO is featured in the inFlux Shanghai–New York Fashion Design Exhibition, presented by WWD CHINA and Jing’an CAZ during Shanghai Fashion Week.
Set within Shanghai’s street-facing public spaces, the exhibition brings our designs into the everyday life of the city, inviting visitors to experience contemporary New York fashion up close. It continues the exchange between the two cities through design, culture, and new connections.
